Ammu was living a normal adolescent life with its aches and pinings; and her relationship with her amma and elayamma were as it should be; that is, in accordance with nature’s law. Except that, she was not aware of that until the rusty key unlocked the dark secret kept shackled in the old trunk. Only if that secret had remained within the rusty confines and not clung on to the innermost recess of Ammu’s heart, forever. Shadows of the past is a breezy, enjoyable read with an unsuspecting twist towards the end. Looking forward to the author’s next creation.
S KRISHNAN –
Well written novel with striking real characterization of the myriad relationship that keeps changing with age and the roots of the past that keep haunting over a life time for a few careless moments that has tryst with destiny pregnant with the seeds of the past that could follow like a huge shadow that could induce fear leading to a maze of pride or prejudice ultimately shattering relationships if not bridled with self control

The narrative was clearly written from the lead female character’s point of view.. though sorrowful – the sarcastic writing overcome that.. nice read..

Unputdownable Novel. The portrayal of Ammu is so elegant that her mellifluous voice is subconsciously heard. Very difficult to believe that it’s debute novel of the author. The remnants of poetry are spilled over throughout. The canvas of the story is aesthetically woven with events which everyone would have personally experienced in life. The philosophical churn out in the last pages drags us to nod in agreement. Yes, Life snatches away something from us, but….

The language is very simple and engaging. I was drawn into it and felt engaging with the character. This book brought my own memories of my past. A very simple beautifully narrated family drama. Loved it. Would like to know if there are any other books from this author.

A poignant drama that unfolds with a twist in a very simple understandable language. The characters are well depicted and neatly interwoven. The background brings about nostalgic memories of a typical family from the quiet village in Kerala. Loved it.
