Dr. Justice A.K. Rajan was born in an agricultural family in Silukkuvarpatti village in the Dindigul District. He graduated from Madras Christian College, obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Madras Law College, and earned a Master of Laws Degree in Constitutional Law and International Law from Madras University. While practicing at Madras High Court, he was a part-time professor in Madras Law College for a decade.
All the propositions of Law propounded by him in the Second International Law Moot Court competition in 1973, on Law of the Sea, on the concepts of Exclusive Economic Zone (E.E.Z) were accepted by the 1982 United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). India established E.E.Z in 1976 by amending Article 297 by Constitution 40th Amendment Act.
