Overview

This volume ‘Fundamentals of Turbomachines’ was borne out of the several years of experience the author has had in teaching the subject to under-graduates and post- graduates and guiding research.
The book deals with the subject of turbomachines in a unified approach common to both compressors and turbines, in the first three chapters, also taking care to have common expressions for both incompressible and compressible flows.
In a span of about thirteen chapters, much effort had gone in to discuss details of the working and constructional aspects of most classes of turbomachines. A separate chapter is devoted to bladings of supersonic compressors and turbines.
The book has been profusely illustrated to give the reader a visual understanding of the flows through turbomachine elements, which would have been otherwise difficult to explain theoretically.
As the book has been intended for use by the under graduates, questions and problems with answers, have been appended at the end of every section. References at the end of each chapter are expected to be useful to researchers, as well.
Suggestions and criticisms for the improvement of the book are welcome.
